Typically, MohLoh prefers to dote on her boisterous baby, Lek Lek and takes her mothering duties very seriously.

It is therefore rare, that she has time to play.

But today, when a trusted and faithful nanny was on hand to care for Lek Lek, MohLoh could not resist the opportunity to have some fun with an old tyre!

More mud bathing fun at Elephant Nature Park during the Wet (Mud) Season

On a rainy day, what better activity than to slather about in slippery slick mud ?! This is heaven for an elephant at Elephant Nature Park, and while LekLek rolls in the mud, Momma MoLoh takes care of an itch at a conveniently located log.

Rescued Elephants MoLoh and LekLek update by our founder Lek

After a recent post about the difficulties of 2 newly rescued elephants settling into Elephant Nature Park, our founder Lek Chailert today made this observation: LekLek and her mother, MoLoh, have been in the Park for some time now. It seemed likely that they would be absorbed beautifully into FaaMai’s family group.

Could a baby elephant bring her rejected mother into the herd?

Earlier this year, baby elephant LekLek and mother MohLoh were rescued from the Omkoi District of Chiang Mai by Save Elephant Foundation. On arrival at Elephant Nature Park, they were introduced to FaaMai's family but three months have passed and acceptance is not complete.

She is often the critical link of fostering positive bonds between disparate groups of elephants. In this video, FaaMai can be seen bringing several groups together for a joint introduction. Unlike many videos captured by the Save Elephant Foundation Media Team, in which we hear loud conversations and other background sounds, this very natural and peaceful video captures the tranquil atmosphere of the elephant sanctuary.

Elephants at Elephant Nature Park always have important access to water

An elephant will drink 150 - 200 liters of water/day. Access is important. You can see how much MoLoh and LekLek satisfy their thirst at the river, sucking up to 5 liters of water before consuming, and drawn at an astounding rate ! (Researchers calculated that elephants suck up water with what would be an equivalent air velocity of 150 metres per second.)

Welcome to our new members, mother MohLoh and her baby girl, LekLek.

Years before the COVID-19 crisis, MohLoh worked at the logging camp and later worked to service rides for tourists. During COVID, the owner brought MohLoh back to the home village as there was no work to be had. The family was supported under the Foster Parent of the Gentle Giant Stay Home project. During their stay in the village, MohLoh gave birth to a little girl.
