After researching KraTae's life story , we found that KraTae had been bought and sold many times in her past. And had worked in many places in Thailand. During Covid, KraTae was sick quite often with colic, and falling down many times. The owner had contacted us often, concerned that she would not live long.

The Incredible Senses of Elephants

While Mintra's herd was bathing in the river, they suddenly became alert to something and began making loud vocalizations to each other. They got out of the river and huddled together, slapping their trunks against the ground. We were puzzled by what had spooked them at first, but within a minute or two, a helicopter flew over the area, and it became clear what all the fuss was about.

She loves the deep water, and anticipates the water level rise after every rain storm at Elephant Nature Park. Mintra is more timid, and checks with her friend if it’s ok to go swimming.

Mintra demonstrates how to herd cattle at Elephant Nature Park

Mintra, a veteran cow herder, demonstrates to Kratae, a novice, just how to move cows effectively! Oftentimes, a large group of cows not under the care of Elephant Nature Park, will drift along the opposite side of the river grazing peacefully. This hasn’t sat well with many of our elephants, with Mintra being the one most incensed by these interlopers onto what she deems her turf.

Elephant of the Week 10 July 2023: Landmine Survivor Ponsawan

Ponsawan is a former logging elephant and unfortunate landmine victim who was rescued by Save Elephant Foundation in August 2011 from illegal logging. She is now 29 years old. She truly loves her life of freedom in the sanctuary of Elephant Nature Park, and does not hesitate to express that. When the river is particularly high, she will be even more excited, and loves to run into the forest, always calling her friends to join with her.
