If you have an itch, sometimes you just gotta scratch it !

At the end of the day, Khamla’s family return to the Park to a welcoming meal which everyone typically readily consumes in a rush.

But today, Mae Baitoey is preoccupied and diverted from the treats to satisfy an itch that clearly was important to her!

Itch satisfied, food returns to her mind.

Khamla is the beating heart of the largest family group at Elephant Nature Park. There are 9 elephants who foster her care and well-being, with a mother Mae Baitoey and 2 Nannies, always doting on her. She is a most fortunate young lady to have been rescued at the age of 4 and brought under the care of Save Elephant Foundation. Much has changed since her arrival in 2015 and to see her thrive inside such a wonderfully committed family group has been nothing short of inspiring.

Nineteen Elephants rescued by Save Elephant Foundation

Over three years ago, the Thai government confiscated 21 elephants from a camp in Kanchanaburi. It was believed that the elephants did not have proper documentation. These elephants were used for trekking, elephant shows and were also rented to other facilities.

Finally, after a very long court battle and lots of legal expenses, the owners were able to prove that the elephants were indeed legally owned and captive bred. They won the right to keep their elephants.
