Medo, our incredible girl with an indomitable spirit! We don’t really know Medo’s actual birthday but we believe it might be approximately 1976. So when we see playful behaviour of a 45-50 year old elephant, we can only imagine her contentment and happiness.
Meet our resilient girl Medo in the sanctuary of Elephant Nature Park. Despite her disability, Medo shows us the true meaning of joy. Watch as she embraces the river, playing with carefree abandon. Her spirit is an inspiration to us all.
Medo once lived with her two best friends, Mae Lanna and SaoYai. But the climb up the mountain eventually became too much for her and she developed friendships with SookJai (who has since passed away) and Gemsai, with whom she enjoys that company. She is a calm, easy-going elephant with an indomitable spirit, enjoying her life in the sanctuary of the park.
This video was originally recorded and broadcast live on our Eleflix YouTube Channel. Insights into the natural behaviours of rescued elephants that are allowed to behave as elephants is a true joy to watch. This vlogging style production shows rescued elephants Taddao, MeDo and Sai Thong walking through lush vegetation, where we see these mature elephants foraging the hillside for their food.
On days when the sun forms a halo and there is a gentle breeze, the weather is more pleasant. After Medo had played in the river, finished her breakfast with friends, she walked slowly towards a stone scratch post and stood there quite still.

Medo is a medium sized female born around 1976. The majority of her working days were spent in logging camps. She was rescued from a very remote area near the Thai/Burma border, and arrived at Elephant Nature Park in June 2006. She has a Karen language name, a reference to her sad physical condition that has resulted from horrible abuse.
