Volunteers at Journey to Freedom are observing the elephants behavior while they are living free in the forest

The journey to freedom volunteers are spending time with the elephants today. This project supports the Karen People and allows them to keep their elephants rather than lease them out to the trekking camps. Today volunteers have been enjoying walking through the jungle with these free elephants who no longer need to work day in and day out. Look at Mebai, her mother Mae Yui and her nanny Mae Boon Sri. They are the lucky elephants that living free in their home forest with the Karen owner. Thank you to all volunteers and supporters for helping us to work for the community. Joining Journey to freedom project not only support the Karen people but you also bringing the new life to the elephants.

When she arrived at the park, she embraced her new family immediately. Not only is she the adoptive mother of DokNgern, she is also the aunty of Chang Yim, FaaMai, DokMai, and DokRak. And when Bunma and her baby Chaba first arrived she quickly moved to assist caring for Chaba.

Fascinating Elephant Communication at Elephant Nature Park

At Elephant Nature Park, visitors can often see younger elephants being surrounded, guided, caressed and protected by other elephants. This caring behaviour of elephants being attentive to the care and well being of other elephants, especially younger elephants we call Nanny Behaviour.

Rescued Elephants MoLoh and LekLek update by our founder Lek

After a recent post about the difficulties of 2 newly rescued elephants settling into Elephant Nature Park, our founder Lek Chailert today made this observation: LekLek and her mother, MoLoh, have been in the Park for some time now. It seemed likely that they would be absorbed beautifully into FaaMai’s family group.

Flashback Friday 28 July 2023: FaaSai Before her rescue and Now

She was just a young girl 5 years old, separated from her mother and forced to perform in the circus. With a stubborn proud heart, she refused to comply, and she suffered more harm, shackled and beaten until the owner could do no more with her. She was so fortunate to find her life absorbed into and fostered by a large family group.

Elephants protect a baby while she sleeps during a rain storm

This is another touching video, showing an elephant family gathering closely around a baby elephant at Elephant Nature Park as she lays in the mud during a rainstorm. The family protects her while she is laying down in the rain. Laying in the mud and in the rain, Chana is certainly wet & muddy but the nannies show a form of protection to their cherished baby Chana.

Baby Elephant LekLek Loves To Run Around at Elephant Nature Park

Baby elephant LekLek is becoming stronger and more confident. She loves running around her area and is quite territorial with strangers. Her weight is steadily improving, and we are delighted to see the little girl growing up in good health at Elephant Nature Park.

SookSai Presents Herself To Be A Nanny For Newly Rescued Baby Sa Ngae

There is a wonderful story to be seen in this video, showing the start of a relationship between a baby elephant Sa Ngae andan older elephant SookSai. Sa Ngae's mother Mho Jae is constantly in the vicinity and lets her baby play with SookSai.

The story to be understood here is that SookSai is presenting herself to be a nanny for the baby and showing that she would like to bond with the family.

While the mahouts are relaxing in the shade, Pyi Mai and Chaba take the opportunity to roam about. They spy the cameraman filming some other elephants nearby, and they suspect that they might be able to find some food.
