Thong Ae – The Heart of the Herd

Apr 28, 2026

At Elephant Nature Park, Thong Ae is known as a true social butterfly—an elephant whose warmth and curiosity allow her to float effortlessly from one herd to another. Each day, she moves across the fields with purpose and joy, checking in on friends, lifting spirits, and bringing a sense of connection wherever she goes.

Though still young, Thong Ae is already stepping into the role of a big sister. In elephant society, age shapes responsibility, and she is learning quickly. With gentle authority, she guides the younger ones through calm, sweet communication that encourages them to live together in harmony. At the riverside, where the little ones gather to play, she often joins them, lying down so they can climb across her back or following their lead as they tumble through the sand. As a trainee nanny, she leads by example, mixing fun with care. Her charming character and cheerful disposition are impossible to resist.

Thong Ae’s journey to freedom has had a lasting impact on her. Rescued as a young calf from a hard life begging on the streets, she has grown into a confident, intelligent, and spirited elephant whose resilience is matched only by her kindness. She forms bonds with elephants of all ages, from playful calves to older grandmas, while staying close to her adoptive family—Jenny, Sri Nuan, and Faa Mai. Her joyful, sometimes mischievous nature reflects the freedom she embraces so naturally in the safety of her forever home.

Thong Ae also shares a truly special bond with Lek and loves staying close to her, eagerly following Lek wherever she goes. She has developed the adorable habit of pulling off Lek’s boots—though the reason remains something of a mystery. Rooted in mutual trust, affection, and quiet understanding, their relationship is a beautiful reflection of the profound connection that can exist between species—built on love and felt deeply.
