From the first time I looked into an elephants eyes. I found a deep love
and as it grew over the years, I felt very strongly that I wanted to do
something towards helping these wonderful animals who have been so badly
treated. I searched for over a year for some kind of sanctuary or
elephant project which I could take active part in and then I came
across Lek's elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai.
For anyone who loves elephants this is ideal ! You not only get to
feed and bath with them every day you also administer medication and
love to the sick and hurt ones. For me, it was so special to be able to
give something back to these animals that I love so much.
The accommodation was so much better than I expected and I awoke
most mornings to elephants trumpeting just next to my hut. The food was
just amazing and all of the people are really friendly. Even though I
was traveling alone I made friends very quickly.
From visiting the Karen Hill Tribes and the Jumbo Express to riding
an elephant across the river and up to the Haven; this is an experience
I will never forget. |
