Testimonials from visitors and  volunteers

Name: Rosie Gloyns
From: UK
When: Feb 2002
Comments: I came to volunteer with Lek after finishing a Zoology degree at Cardiff University, Wales. Me and a friend of mine had been traveling for 5 months previous to this experience and came to Thailand specifically to work with Lek and her elephants. During my degree I had worked at a Zoo in England for one year and had been lucky enough to spend time with the elephants there, so I knew what special creatures they were. Working with them in their natural habitat is however a totally different and much more educational experience. I have been with Lek for just over a month and am now reluctantly having to think about leaving. I have spent time at her mountain sanctuary, riding, bathing, treating and living with her elephants, each one with special likes, dislikes and quirky ways. I have spent time on a farm looking after Ging Mai, the 3 month old baby elephant who was rescued by Lek. He requires 24 hour a day care and is the most incredible animal I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Sleeping next to him incase he needs milk in the night is one of the most amazing things I have done in my life. Watching as he learns how to use his trunk, to play with dust and water and slowly overcoming some of his fears stemming from the first hours of his life. Lek is an angel not only to elephants and runs 'Jumbo Express' which visits remote hilltribes every week. As a volunteer you will no doubt have the opportunity to join her vaccinating chickens, dogs and buffalo, Worming small children and distributing much needed vitamins and medicines. I can not recommend this program enough to you. You will learn so much! about the elephants of Thailand, both good and bad, you will make a difference to individuals and gain memories that will stay with you forever. If you have any more questions or want to know anything else about Leks work or traveling in Thailand I'd be happy to help.
