Flash floods threaten Elephants

Unusually heavy rainfall in the area have caused havoc at Elephant Nature Park. The bordering river running has burst through its barrier and flooded most of the surrounding area. The river bank has subsided and washed away much of the land area, buildings and newly planted trees. The houses closest to the river in the adjoining villages have already been swept away and the entire local village by the park is at risk. Local villagers claimed this to be the worst flooding in over 25 years.

There is still a month to go of the wet season and more rain is expected.

All the elephants were moved to high ground and today she is planning
on evacuating all the other animals. Lek has also decided to move as much
equipment to higher ground as possible. The road to the park is passable under extreme duress and it is expected to remain so for a number of days.

With additional support she hopes to safe the remaining buildings
