Ging Mai -

Ging Mai, Hope and a big splash

Preparing for the walk

April 2002

Ging Mai has been the centre of attention since his arrival late last year. His wounds have closed and he is in good health. Soon we hope he will be strong enough to join the herd under the protection of an ever watchful mother.

Earlier this month he was joined by another parentless victim. Hope is over nine months old but both infants share similar background in that they have had to pull through the toughest of times without the loving care of their mothers. Today they have been out for a long walk with what they consider their surrogate mother - Lek.  The volunteers have been tending these poor youngsters and helping them along the long road to recovery.

Ging Mai may feel that the limelight has lost its sheen but he is delighted to be in the company of another elephant. Today Hope takes his first swim in the pond.

Did he enjoy it?
