Dear Friends and supporters
Elephant Nature would like to inform you
again about the Department of
National Parks (DNP) raid at Elephant Nature Park.
On
06 February I asked the department why
we had been raided and was told by the
official that
they had a hotline call reporting
that Elephant Nature Park has 70 wild
elephants at the park. I
requested to see their officially issued
warrant which gave them the right to inspect
the parks land .
On 08 Feb around 100 armed officials raided to the park and
searched for these alleged 70 wild elephants.
This lasted until the evening. They found only 35 elephants,
most in a state of recovery. We take car
of our herd members amongst them the
blind, lame, handicap , old and scarred
from previous lives of abuse. They did
not find the 70 wild elephants as they have
announcement to the press earlier . At
the end of the day the officials from 10
different departments has sign
papers acknowledging that we have no
wild elephants and nothing
illegal inside the park.
Five days later, the director went to WFFT in and they arrested
Edwin Weik ‘s wife
and confiscated many animals under their
care.
On 21 February 2012 I joined
Edwin Weik ( WFFT) for a press
conference at FCCT ( Foreigner
Correspondence Club Thailand) and exposed
the
story of baby elephant traders and
presented details implicating officials
from the DPP in their capture.
27 Feb 12 I received a number of
concerned phone calls from
the local governor, vet department and
police friends who support our work.
I was told to prepare for arrest as they
had seen the warrant issued by the
order that the director of DNP (Mr
Damrong Pidech)
will personally go
to Elephant Nature Park to target to arrest Lek.
They claimed that we have the baby
elephants at the park and they claim
that they were captured from the wild.
We have already sent the
hair and blood sample for the DNP to
test DNA, but they do not care for this
evidence and it has been ignored
Today we expect them to confiscate 8
elephants, including 5 babies. Normally
an elephant will not be issued a birth
certificate until they are 8 years old
and our baby are only 2 years old
We will do whatever possible to protect
our elephants. Today I prepare to go to jail
but the fight for my animals and justice
will never stop.
