Story update - Medo settling in

Medo has been at the park since July 2006 and the young female
elephant took a time to find her feet and adjust herself to her
new home. Medo was familiar with loneliness for more than ten
years and she will often walk away from the herd and long
periods alone by the river. Some times she lets herself float
and sleep in the river for many hours.
She is now fully accepted by all the elephant groups at the
park. She is friendly to all but still reserved and a little
shy. Medo spends most her time strolling across the park
visitign herd families but has not yet decided which one to
join. |

Companionship and healing for Mae Mai and Medo
When Thong Bai became sick Medo tried to help by offering
whatever comfort she could give. She would often visit Mae Mai
and Thong Bai at their shelter. When Thong Bai passed away Mae
Mai became very unhappy and would search the area for her,
moaning as she went. She would comfort Mae Mai by murmuring and
touching her with her trunk. She really wanted to get close to
Mae Mai and to offer friendship in the hope that it would,
somehow, replace some of the love lost after Thong Bai’s death.
It took Mae Mai three days to accept her as a close friend.
Today Medo Mae Mai and Medo stay together all day long. They
have become very close and are helping each other heal. This
pair are the latest sub-group to form at our park.
