Mass offence caused by wild animal menu offering stirs protest Nov 05
Project Director for the Night Safari, Dr Plodprasop Suraswadi proudly announced a controversial menu at a press conference on 16 Nov 2005. Shocked animal lovers immediately took grave offence at the offerings which included tiger, lion, elephant, giraffe, crocodile, zebra as well as dog meat. The exotic menu for 'special visitors” was to be offered at US$120 per diner. The news came as the project was billed as a conservation and educational resource.
Kenyan and Thai conservationists quickly condemned this shocking practice and were joined by other groups throughout the world.
Elephant Nature Park founder Sangduen Chailert strongly criticized the statement and led a protest against the proposal.
The night safari had been opposed by groups against the importation of exotic animals since the project was first announced.
