News new baby elephant from Lek
14 July 2012

Just quick note to inform you that on the morning of 13 Jul, around 01.00 am I get a call for help from a Karen tribal village in the Mae Jeam area. A baby elephant who born just before midnight. He is injured and sick and his mother rejected him. In that hour Karen people have taken the baby from the mountain to us. It is raining heavily and we drive from Chiang Mai with the warm milk and blankets and soft tissue.

We met the truck that transport the baby. He is in the critical situation, because he have not enough oxygen and his trunk began to turn to be a green colour.

We start to lift his body and try to help him breath. At this moment he improved but is still in incentive care.

He starts to drink milk (not mothers milk) from us and starts to walk a little bit. He is under our 24 hour care now.

I will let you know more story update soon. Just now I would like to get a short sleep and I am so exhausted. The mahout took only the baby and left the mother in the village. We send our vet and truck now to the village to take the mother elephant to our park and we hope that we can help mother heal mentally and also we need her milk for her baby.

Much Love
Lek
