A new home at the Northern haven!

Siam

At the herd: Mar 03
Rescued from: Begging

Her official name is Pang Sompong and she was born in 1965 in the North Eastern area of Thailand. Her mother is an ex-elephant logging from the North sold to traders in to North-east. After she gave birth the mother elephant could not work at logging and was bought to stay at home and pick up a little work from the local village. They hired her mother to be a part of functions such as marriages or Buddhist ceremonies. She was moved to the busy streets of the city to make money from tourists and residents.

Charles Begley and Rachel Jones from England came to Thailand seeking elephants for an education program they had planned.

They transported three elephants to the Haven by truck - Siam, Thai and Maximus. Today Siam is together with her herd and Chas and Rachel are back home in U.K. and the three elephants at the Haven have joined the herd and are living a natural and very happy life.

Siam succumb to illness on 13 June 2005.
