Rescued from: Transportation
*Birthday: 29 Jul 1955

Mae Keaw is a middle aged female born in 1955. We called her Mini-me because of her very small size and, when she mingles amongst the herd, she looks like a baby elephant. She had worked as an elephant taxi transporting tourists around the trekking areas. She developed deep pains in the front of her chest.

We gave her a new home with us at Elephant Haven. When we reached home we set her free. Mae Keaw hesitated to walk. She was not familiar with her legs free of chains. She was very shy to walk, every step slow and unsure as if to show that she cannot understand why suddenly the restrictions of the chains has gone. She hesitated, then looked around, mistrusting the situation she wondering what to make of her new-found freedom. We saw her slowly saunter in to the jungle, not looking back to say good-bye to the discarded chains. Today she is a free elephant at Elephant Haven with the reward of adopting Hope as her son.

Mae Kaew loves her precious time at our park Mae Kaew elephant rescue

*Records and official documentation of elephants of more than 10 years ago are sketchy at best. The dates we use are our best estimates.
